For someone that has some balance issues I use a cross-over bag over a backpack. The reason for this is because if a bag is too heavy on my back, I will either fall backwards or forwards; compared to a cross-over bag I even it out enough in the pockets so that the cross-over bag won’t tilt me completely over.
When I was a kid, mum was very much against me using a backpack at Primary School. She would purchase a bag that I could wheel around. Back then I was not as stable as I am to this day. Hence, why mum recommended, and got me to use a wheel bag, rather than a backpack at that age.
In year 5 and 6, I would often be embarrassed going into the school grounds while wheelinge bag behind me. But I always knew that this was much easier and better than me falling over every single day. When I got into high school, I had a few trips with a bag on my back, but not many.
So, why do I choose cross-over bags?
Bags that I can wear over the shoulder is a massive yes for me. It wasn’t until after TAFE, that I noticed that a cross-over bag would be easier for me then a backpack. As I had to get my smart rider out of my bag to get on the bus and on the train. I need to sit down on both trains and buses, with having a backpack on, a majority of the seat is taken up.
With having unsteady feet and the backpack issue with seats on public transport, I decided to use my old high-school cross-over bags for TAFE. I had this black laptop cross-over bag in high school, so I could move class to class with my laptop and with my books easily. I tried carrying my books, but this made me much more unsteady on my feet, and I couldn’t avoid tripping over my own feet when I carried the books 😅
I started to use my crossover bag in March, and this made a massive difference for me. My original thought of this was if the backpack tipped me over either backwards or forwards then the cross-over bag would do the same to, but no it didn’t. The black bag is wide enough that I can spread the weight inside the bag evenly, which I didn’t realise until I started using it.
So my question to you is, do you prefer cross-over bags, or backpacks? Let me know in the comments down below!
